Generating a Two-Layered Synthetic Population for French Municipalities: Results and Evaluation of Four Synthetic Reconstruction Methods

This article describes the generation of a detailed two-layered synthetic population households and individuals for French municipalities. Using census data, four reconstruction methods associated with two probabilistic integerization are applied. The paper offers an in-depth description each method through common framework. A comparison these is then carried out on basis various criteria. Results showed that tested algorithms produce realistic populations most efficient assessed being Hierarchical Iterative Proportional Fitting relative entropy minimization algorithms. Combined Truncation Replication Sampling allocation performing integerization, generate household-level individual-level data whose values lie closest to those actual population.
